Auto sales grow by 14 per cent in November

Despite the slowdown in economic growth, the automobile sales in the country recorded a strong growth in sales in November.

Despite the slowdown in economic growth, the automobile sales in the country recorded a strong growth in sales in November. Automobile majors Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Mahindra & Mahindra recorded double digit growth in sales for the corresponding month, while the industry on the whole recorded a growth of over 14 per cent.

However, the rise in growth on a yearly basis was higher in November 2017 largely due to a low base of November 2016. The government's demonetisation move had drastically affected the country's automoblie sales in November 2016 with the auto majors recording stark decline in sales. Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra and Honda had posted a sales decline in November 2016.

Maruti Suzuki recorded a 14 per cent growth in sales in November 2017, driven by compact car segment and utility vehicles. Its new Dzire and Baleno aided the expansion in the segment by 32 per cent and UV sales recorded a 34 per cent hike.

Hyundai, which had recorded an 8 per cent decline in sales in November 2016, reported a 10 per cent growth in sales in the same month of the current year. Mahindra & Mahindra posted a 21 per cent growth in sales on a yearly basis. Tata Motors’ sales grew by 35 per cent and Toyota sales grew by 12 per cent in Novemeber 2017.
