WPI inflation rises to 3.93 per cent in November

India's WPI inflation rose 8-month high of 3.93 per cent in November compared to 3.59 per cent in October and 1.82 per cent in November, 2016.

India's WPI inflation rose 8-month high of 3.93 per cent in November compared to 3.59 per cent in October and 1.82 per cent in November, 2016. The steep increase in inflation is attributed to the rising price of food staples including onions, vegetables, fruits, eggs, along with an increase in fuel prices, showed data released by the Commerce Ministry on Thursday.

Prices of Primary Articles rose 5.28 per cent as compared to 3.33% in the month of October. Primary Articles constitute 22.62 per cent of the WPI's total weightage and include food articles such as cereals, grains, pulses, onion, potato, milk, egg, meat, fish, and non-food articles such as fibre, oil seeds, minerals.

Manufactured products, which constitute 64.23 per cent of the WPI's total weightage showed little inflationary change in November at 2.61 per cent versus 2.62 per cent in October. While Fuel inflation was at 8.82 per cent compared to 10.52 per cent in October.

Meanwhile, the market witnessed a sharp surge in the closing hours of trade on Thursday. S&P BSE Sensex closed at 33,246.70 points, up 193.66 points or 0.59 per cent, while Nifty50 closed at 10,252.10
points, up 59.15 points or 0.58 per cent on Thursday.
