The markets opened with a downside gap on account of weakness seen across the globe but recovered during last two hours of trade to end marginally in red. All major sectoral indices ended on a flat note. The Sensex closed at 16,446 down 74 points after trading in the range of 16,487-16,187. Nifty closed at 4,931 down 16 points after trading in the range of 4,947-4842. The small-cap and mid-cap indices were down by 1.52 per cent and 1.26 per cent respectively.
