Day Ends On Weak Note

Selling pressure was seen in the Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, Realty and Power stocks today. The Nifty closed at 5938 and Sensex was at 19,588. Power Grid Corporation ended 2.65% higher as the top gainer on the NSE.

The Indian markets extended their afternoon losses led by selling pressure in Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, Realty and Power stocks. At the end of the day, Nifty fell by 20 points to close at 5938 and Sensex closed down by 51 points at 19,588.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side at the end of the day. On the NSE, 1021 shares closed in the red and 399 shares closed in green.

Top 5 NSE Gainers: Power Grid Corporation ended 2.65% higher as the top gainer on the NSE, followed by IDFC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Grasim and Tata Consultancy.

Top 5 NSE Losers: Reliance Infrastructure closed down by 4.52%. Others in the red included Sesa Goa, Ambuja Cements, Bank of Baroda and NTPC.

Most of the sectoral indices ended in the red. IT and Auto were higher in the range of 0.31%-0.66%, while Consumer Durables, Realty and Metals dipped between 1.12%-2.85%.

On the global front, the Asian shares closed negative. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed down by 0.94%. Shanghai Composite, Straits Times and Hang Seng were also in the red by day’s end.

The European markets are trading firm. CAC 40 is trading higher by 0.20%, DAX is up by 0.17% and FTSE 100 has gained 0.10%.

Buzzers: Venky’s announced its third quarter results, wherein it reported a net loss at Rs 14.3 crore as against a profit of Rs 2.9 crore on a year-on-year basis. The stock has crashed down by more than 6%. In the previous trading session, the stock had closed up by 10.51% as it saw heavy volumes.

Bata rallied up by 2.67% to close at Rs 778. The stock opened at Rs 758.95 and registered a high of Rs 781 in today’s trading session, seeing good momentum even in a negative market.

The Nifty has finally broken its trading range and closed below the crucial support level of 5950.
