Markets recover by a fraction, but remain in the negative
Shrikant / 19 Dec 2011
Indian markets witnessed another volatile day, opening 50 points down and continuing to trade in the negative. In the later afternoon session, the markets recovered by a tiny percentage, but this was not enough to turn the morning losses into profits. By the end of the day, the BSE Sensex closed at 15379.34, down by 112 points, while the 50-share Nifty closed at 4613.1, down by 38 points.
Earlier, the Asian markets ended the day on a negative note. North Korean leader Kim Jong Il's death this morning raised concerns over stability in that part of the world. Korean stocks fell after the death of the leader.
European markets, however, are showing some recovery in trades at this time. The FTSE has gained by 0.36%, while CAC and DAX are also seen trading in the green.
Dow Jones Futures is currently trading 52 points or 0.44% up at 11830, indicating a positive sentiment in the US markets.
