Volatile markets end the day in green

The Indian markets had a volatile trading day. After trading in the red for most part of the day, they finally ended in the green. Among the sectors, Capital Goods, IT, Teck and Auto closed in positives, which helped the market to close on a positive note. Oil & Gas, Healthcare, Realty etc. closed the session in the red zone.
Other Asian markets also closed today’s session in the red zone. The major indices like Shanghai, Hang Seng and Nikkei closed down by more than 1% on fears of the Euro debt crisis getting worse.
European markets are trading in a very narrow range, with DAX trading in the positive territory, while CAC and FTSE are trading marginally lower.

Back home, the Capital Goods heavyweight stocks helped the markets to rebound from the day’s lows. L&T and BHEL closed the session session higher by 2.56% and 3.67%. Others like Tata Motors, Sterlite Industries and Maruti Suzuki closed the session up by more than 2%.
On the other hand, Oil & Gas giant, Reliance Industries, was down 2.55% to Rs 713.40. Cipla, Sun Pharma, HDFC, NTPC, DLF, etc. closed lower in the range of 1.05%-2.35%. Other stocks like Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, etc. closed the session marginally in the red zone.
State Bank of India also closed 2.22% higher at Rs 1816.65, after the bank said that it has received the Finance Ministry's approval for capital infusion in the range of Rs 6000-Rs 8000 cr by FY12. The UB Group stocks, United Spirits and United Breweries rallied by 4.89% and 4.53% respectively on the reports that the group will consolidate its alcohol business.

The market breadth, which indicates the overall health of the market, remained positive. Out of the 3184 stocks traded on the BSE, 1555 advanced, 1517 declined and 112 remained unchanged.
For tomorrow, investors should watch out for stocks like HCL Tech, Chambal Fertilisers, TCS, Camlin, etc., which are going to declare their Q3 FY12 numbers.
