Markets bounce back, close positive

Oil & Gas, IT, Consumer Durables and Metals stocks helped the markets gain in the last trading session. The Sensex and Nifty closed with gains of 0.92% and 0.90% respectively.

After losing some gains in the afternoon trade, the Indian markets rebounded again and closed with strong gains. The Sensex and Nifty closed with gains of 0.92% and 0.90% respectively. Oil & Gas, IT, Consumer Durables and Metals stocks helped the markets gain in the last trading session.

The Asian markets closed in a mixed bag, with the Nikkei ending on a flat negative note while Hang Seng ended with marginal gains of 0.30%.

The European markets opened negative today, but later trimmed their early losses. FTSE and CAC are trading marginally down by 0.14% and 0.08% respectively. Investors switched to defensive stocks ahead of the talks between the European leaders and the creditors. Also, investors are waiting for the release of the US GDP data.

Dow Jones Futures is currently trading 24 points or 0.19% up at 12708, indicating a positive sentiment in the US markets.

Back home, most of the BSE sectoral indices are trading positively with gains between 0.45%-2.58%. Oil & Gas, CD, Teck and Metals are leading with gains of 2.58%, 2.47%, 2.14% and 1.90% respectively. On the other hand, Realty, FMCG, Bankex and Power are down by 2.18%, 0.80%, 0.27% and 0.22% respectively.

Among the Sensex shares, Bharti Airtel, GAIL India, RIL, Sterlite Industries, L&T, Tata Motors and Tata Steel are leading the index with gains between 2.90%-5.53%. Bajaj Auto, BHEL, DLF, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Hero MotoCorp, ITC and Jindal Steel are leading the losers tally, all down between 1.82% - 2.96%.

The market breadth, which indicates the overall health of the market, was positive. Out of the 3326 stocks traded on the BSE, 1985 advanced, 1231 declined and 110 remained unchanged.
