After opening on a positive note, the Indian markets extended their early gains in the afternoon and closed on a firmly positive note. The Sensex and Nifty closed with gains of 1.14% and 0.95% respectively.

Yesterday, the US Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, kept the key policy rates unchanged. This lifted investor sentiment and led the rally in all the markets across the globe. This was a significant move by the US government, which will help it to maintain growth with the hope of a speedy recovery. Dow Jones Futures is currently trading 3 points or 0.02% up at 13203, indicating a positive sentiment in the US markets.

Other Asian markets closed the day on a positive note over cues from the US region.

The European markets too are continuing to trade on a firm positive note taking support from the comments of Bernanke, which made it clear that the easy monetary policy would remain for some more time and support the recovery process.
