Markets Boomerang To End Day Higher

The Indian markets had a volatile trading day. Trades opened lower in the red, but reversed direction in the last hour to close comfortably in the positive territory.

The European indices are also trading higher, with CAC, DAX and FTSE up in the range of 0.30%-1.1%. Reports said that the European stocks advanced, extending an 18-month high, amid optimism that the US lawmakers will manage a budget to steer clear of the fiscal cliff. The US futures were little changed.
Dow Jones Futures is currently trading 75 points or 0.58% up at 13045, indicating a positive sentiment in the US markets.

Back home, among the sectoral indices, Realty, Power and Bankex closed higher by more than 1% each. Others like Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Auto also closed higher in the green zone.
On the other hand, the Teck and IT indices closed lower by 1.05% and 1.37% respectively. Healthcare was also marginally in the red.
Metals stocks continued to trade higher, with Sterlite Industries and Hindalco closing higher by 2.35% and 1.78% respectively. Tata Motors, BHEL, NTPC and ICICI Bank are among the stocks which closed higher in the range of 1.4%-2%. GAIL India, HDFC Bank, ONGC and HUL managed to closed marginally higher for the day.
Infosys was the worst performer in today's trade. The stock closed 1.84% down at Rs 2338.50 per share. Other IT majors Wipro and TCS were also lower by 0.33% and 1.14% respectively. Telecom major Bharti Airtel lost 1.59% to touch Rs 324.80 per share. Auto names Hero MotoCorp and M&M were also marginally down by 0.16% and 0.01% respectively.
The market breadth remained positive for the day. Out of the 3001 stocks traded on the BSE, 1602 advanced, 1297 declined and 102 remained unchanged.We expect the markets to remain volatile for tomorrow too.
