Bears Enjoy An Upper Hand, Markets End Lower

The Indian markets witnessed some action in the last hour of trade, which was dominated by the bears. Nifty, for the first time, in the last one month slipped below the mark of 5900 on an intraday basis. At the end of the day, Nifty closed down at 5903 and Sensex ended at 19,466.

At the end of the day, Nifty closed down by 35 points at 5903 and Sensex ended down by 114 points at 19,466. Both the indices ended down in the range of 0.58% to 0.59%.
The advance-decline ratio was extremely negative at the end of the day. On the NSE, 1044 shares ended in red and 396 shares ended in green.
Top 5 NSE Gainers: Tata Consultancy Services ended as the top gainer on NSE, up by 2.56%, followed by Wipro, BHEL, HDFC and L&T.
Top 5 NSE Losers: Ambuja Cement ended as the top loser on NSE, down by 5.20%, followed by Cipla, Bharti, Hindalco Industries, ACC and Sesa Goa.
Most of sectors ended down. IT and Teck ended up in the range of 0.62%-0.83%. Metal, Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Realty saw profit booking and ended in red.
The European markets inched up. CAC 40 is trading higher by 0.41%, DAX is trading higher by 0.05% and FTSE 100 is trading higher by 0.34%.
Most of the Asian markets ended on a positive note. KOSPI closed higher by 0.98%, followed by Shanghai Composite, Straits Times and Hang Seng. Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended in deep red down by 1.83%.
Buzzers: Shashun Pharma closed in red for the second straight day. The stock closed down by 13.46% at Rs 85.20. It went down after the company reported a 67% fall in its net profit, which came in at Rs 8.2 crore. The company had posted a profit of Rs 24.6 during the same quarter previous year.
Exide Industries rallied more than 5% in the last hour of trading session on the backdrop of the news that the company will raise prices for replacement auto batteries by 5-6% due to rising input costs. The scrip saw a jump in volumes too.
Nifty has given a close below 5920, going ahead 5880 and needs to maintain on the closing basis.
