Markets Witness 2013’s Biggest Single-Day Fall, Nifty Down By 1.52%

The Indian markets have extended their afternoon session loss and closed near the lowest point of the day. The markets saw a single-day biggest fall of 2013. At the end of the day, Nifty closed down by 90 points at 5852 and Sensex closed at 19,309.

The advance–decline ratio ended on a negative side at the end of the day. On the NSE, 1157 shares closed in red and 285 shares closed in green.
Top Gainers on NSE: Cipla ended up by 0.05% as the top gainer on NSE, followed by Bajaj Auto and GAIL.
Top 5 losers on NSE: Jindal Steel and Power ended the day as the top loser on NSE, down by 4.40%, followed by Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Reliance Infrastructure and Jaiprakash Associates.
Most of the sectors ended in red. The only sector to end in green was Consumer Durables. Metal, Realty and Bankex saw the biggest fall among the sectoral pack and were down in the range of 2.30%-3.35%.
The Asian markets closed lower. Shanghai Composite closed down by 3.06% followed by Hang Seng and Nikkei 225.
The European markets are seen following the Asian markets, trading in deep red. CAC 40 is trading down by 1.61%, followed by DAX and FTSE, trading down in the range of 1.34%-1.55%.
Buzzers: Bharti Airtel saw a steep fall in the last hour of trade. It had a good support around the levels of 300, but once the stock broke this support, it saw a down move with a jump in volume. The stock closed down by 2.57% at 296.20.
Yes Bank has broken important support levels of 490-495. The stock saw a heavy sell-off in the post noon trade along with a rise in the volumes. It closed down by 4.37% a 486.95.
Nifty has seen a breakdown of important support level of 5880 on a closing basis. Going ahead, the last support for Nifty stands at 5825, below this level we can see a sell-off.
