Markets Fail To Recover Morning Losses

The Indian markets closed on a lower end today as the Nifty was down to close the day at 5699 and Sensex closed at 18,820. Both the indices ended in red by 1.6% and 1.12% respectively.

The advance–decline ratio ended on a negative note at the end of day. On the NSE, 360 shares closed in green, while 1005 shares ended the day in red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Hindalco closed the day with gains of 4.6%, followed by Bharti Airtel, SBI, Jindal Steel and Ambuja Cement.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: NMDC ended the day as the top Nifty loser, down by 4.8%, followed by PNB, Bank of Baroda, Tata Motors and Sesa Goa.

Twelve out of the 13 sectors ended on a negative note. Auto is the top loser for the day, down by 247 points, Banks and Healthcare are also down by 160 points and 158 points respectively. IT and PSU indices are down by 101 points and 108 points correspondingly.

The Asian markets closed on a negative note too. Nikkei was down by 846 points. Hang Seng ended the day in red, down by 467 points, while China’s Shanghai Composite, Straits Times, and Taiwan indices ended on a negative note.

Buzzers: Apollo Tyres fell by over 25% to close at Rs 68.60 as the company's acquisition of the US-based Cooper Tire for USD 2.5 billion is expected to wreck Apollo's financials.

Sun Pharma closed 3% lower at Rs 949.45, but this was way above its intraday low of Rs 916, after the company had to settle its patent case with Pfizer for a sum higher than what it had provided for.

Nifty could not manage to hold above the 5700 level .Going ahead, we could see a down-move from this level.
