Bulls Take Charge On Expiry Day, Cairn India Gains 5%

The Indian markets saw sluggish trading till mid-market and suddenly saw buying at the end of the day. The Nifty closed the day up by 90 points at 5678 and Sensex gained 318 points to close at 18868.
The Indian markets saw sluggish trading till mid-market and suddenly saw buying at the end of the day. The Nifty closed the day up by 90 points at 5678 and Sensex gained 318 points to close at 18868. Both the indices ended higher by 1.68% and 1.70% respectively.
The advance-decline ratio ended on the positive side. On the NSE, 706 shares closed in the green, while 652 shares were in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: UltraTech Cement closed the day with gains of 5.7%. Cairn India, DLF, ONGC and HDFC Bank were the others that closed higher.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: IDFC was the top loser, down by 1.9%, followed by Maruti Suzuki, Grasim, PNB and Tata Motors.
11 of the 13 sectors ended in gains. The Oil & Gas index went up by 258 points, Bankex was up 204 points and the Healthcare index gained 207 points. IT and Mid-Caps were higher by 189 points and 52 points respectively. The Consumer Durables index, however, was down by 66 points.
The Asian markets closed on a positive note. The Nikkei was the top gainer, up by 379 points and Hang Seng ended up by 101 points. China’s Shanghai Composite, Straits Times and Taiwan Weighted ended on a positive note.
Buzzers: Hanung Toys crashed 19% to Rs 83.30. Its net profit declined 42.55% YoY to touch Rs 66.04 crore and its net sales saw 27.69% growth to Rs 1782.70 crore in the year ended March 31, 2013.
Tata Motors is the top loser among large-caps, losing over 3% today. The stock made a new low at Rs 263.10.
