Markets End On Day’s High, Nifty Closes At 5898

The Indian markets saw a flat opening to witness some strength in the after session. The Nifty held all its gains to close up by 56 points at 5898. Sensex closed at 19,577, up by 181 points.
The Indian markets saw a flat opening to witness some strength in the after session. The Nifty held all its gains to close up by 56 points at 5898. Sensex closed at 19,577, up by 181 points. Both the indices ended in green by 0.98% and 0.94% respectively.
The advance–decline ratio ended on the positive side at the end of day. On the NSE, 1034 shares closed in green, while 348 shares ended the day in red.
Top Nifty Gainers: Ranbaxy Labs closed the day with gains of 4.98%, as the top Nifty gainer, followed by Reliance Infra, Maruti Suzuki, Sesa Goa and DLF.
Top Nifty Losers: HCL Tech ended the day as the top Nifty loser, down by 2.2%, followed by Infosys, TCS, ONGC and Sun Pharma.
In the sectoral pack, 11 out of the 13 sectors ended on a positive note. Capital Goods gained 252 points, Auto and FMCG were up by 198 points and 136 points respectively, and Oil & Gas and Bankex were up by 138 points and 124 points correspondingly. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps also closed on a positive note, up by more than 100 points.
The Asian markets closed on a positive note too. Nikkei closed up by 175 points. However, Shanghai Composite, Straits Times, and Taiwan ended on a mixed note.
Buzzers: HDIL was up by 12% on an interim relief from the Bombay High Court in the slum rehabilitation case against MIAL. The stock made a high at Rs 42.50 and managed to close above the Rs 40 mark.
The working group formed by government of India and constituted according to the RBI, has proposed the introduction of unique identifiers for customers across different banks and financial institutions for setting up a centralised KYC registry.
Nifty gave a bullish crossover at 5885 which is a positive signal for next trading session.
