Markets Open Weak, Expiry Ahead

The Indian markets opened on a negative note in the morning session today. The global markets were seen selling this morning. The Nifty opened with a negative bias at 5972 and Sensex was down at 20,048. Both the indices opened down in the range of 0.26%-0.21%.

The advance-decline ratio is negative in the morning session. On the NSE, 1375 shares are trading in gains and 1935 shares are down.

Top Nifty Gainers: Hero MotoCorp is the top gainer for today’s morning session, up by 4.7%, followed by IDFC, ONGC, Cairn India and HDFC.

Top Nifty Losers: Ambuja Cement was the top loser for today’s morning session, down by 12.8%, followed by JP Associates, ACC, UltraTech Cement and HUL.

On the sectoral front, 9 out of the 13 sectors are trading in the red zone. FMCG was the top loser trading down by 81 points, followed by Capital Goods and Healthcare which were down by 65 points and 40 points respectively. Metals was also trading on a negative note, down by 38 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps were down by 32 points.

On the global front, the Asian shares are trading with a negative sentiment. The Nikkei market is the top loser for today’s morning session, down by 196 points. Hang Seng is also trading on a negative note, down by 41 points, followed by Taiwan Weighted and Shanghai Composite, down by 22 points and 6 points respectively.

Buzzers: Wockhardt plunged by 12% to make a new 52-week low at Rs 162.55. The stock broke a major support level at Rs 185. If the scrip breaks below this level, we may see a further move downwards.

Nifty traded in a small range of 5960-5990. Once the index breaks one of these levels, it will decide the expiry closing.
