- The US markets rallied over a report in The Wall Street Journal by economics correspondent Jon Hilsenrath which said Federal Reserve officials are likely to cut down bond purchases, but will maintain their monetary easing. - US data showed a more-than-expected climb in durable goods orders, driven by aircraft bookings. Impact: Positive
- Applications for employment benefits climbed by 7000 to 343000 according to data released by the Labor Department in the week ended July 20. The average of new claims over the last month however dropped by 1250 to 345250, which is the lowest level in three months. Impact: Positive
- Loans to private sector in the euro-zone weakened to -1.6% in June 2013, from -1.1% in May 2013. Impact: Negative
- UK GDP for Q2 2013 came in at 0.6% growth on a quarterly basis showing weakness still exists in the economy. Impact: Negative
- Germany’s Ifo business confidence index rose to 106.2 in July 2013 from 105.9 in June 2013. Impact: Positive
- Asian stocks have been lower because of worries over China’s growth. Although the government announced a stimulus package aimed at small businesses and boosting railways, concerns continue to linger over the economy. Impact: Negative
- The rupee eased a little and ended the day at 59.11 to the dollar. Impact: Positive
