A Choppy Session Ends With Marginal Losses

The Indian markets witnessed choppy trades in today’s trading session after the Finance Minister had spoke in a media conference on USDINR, GDP numbers and the RBI policy. The markets saw some recovery from the lower ends. The Nifty ended at 5742, down by 13 points. The Sensex closed at 19,345, down by 2 points.

The indices ended in red, down by 0.23% and 0.01% respectively.
The advance–decline ratio ended on the negative side in the closing session. On the NSE, 1368 shares closed in green, while 1998 shares ended the day in red.
Top Nifty Gainers: Bharti Airtel closed the day, up by 7.2%, followed by Dr Reddy’s Labs, Hindalco, BPCL and BHEL.
Top Nifty Losers: DLF closed the day down by 6.4%, followed by Axis Bank, NTPC, JP Associates and Power Grid Corporation.
On the sectoral front, 5 out of the 13 sectors traded in red. Bankex was the top loser, down by 215 points, followed by FMCG and Mid-Caps, down by 159 points and 50 points respectively. However, Metals and Oil & Gas were up in the range of 160 points. Auto also ended on a positive note, up by 100 points.
The Asian markets closed on a negative note. The Nikkei market closed down by 201 points. Hang Seng also ended on a negative note, down by 70 points. KOSPI and Straits Times ended marginally down.
Buzzers: ICICI Bank announced its Q1FY14 numbers today. Its net profit was up by 25% to Rs 2274 crore. However, the stock remained under a selling pressure and made a low below Rs 900. The scrip has a major support at Rs 866, which is its 52-week low.
Idea, the largest telecom company surged up by 7.8%. The stock made a new 52-week high at Rs 170.70.
Nifty closed below the 5750 level, which indicates a bearish sentiment for further trading sessions.
