Following negative sentiments, the Nifty ended lower by 145 points at 5542 and Sensex closed 450 points down at 18733. All the sectors dropped between 2%-5% in a single day. Tata Power lost over 15% today after posting a loss of Rs 115 crore in Q1FY14.
The NSE 50 and BSE 30 crashed today over negative sentiments from the globe and at home. All the sectors dropped in the range of 2%-5% in a single day. The Nifty ended lower by 145 points at 5542 and Sensex closed 450 points down at 18733. The indices ended in red by 2.5% and 2.3% respectively.
The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side in today’s session. On the NSE, 1124 shares closed in green, while 2187 shares were in red.
Top Nifty Gainers: Tata Motors closed the day as the highest gainer, up by 0.98%. Ambuja Cements, Power Grid Corp and TCS were among the others that closed in gains.
Top Nifty Losers: Tata Power was down by 15.2% today, followed by IndusInd Bank, Asian Paints, BPCL and BHEL.
Bankex was the highest loser among the sectoral indices, down 449 points. Consumer Durables dipped by 358 points and Oil & Gas was 221 points lower. Metals and FMCG closed 216 points and 135 points down respectively. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps were also negative in the range of 100 points.
Among the Asian peers, the Nikkei market was the highest gainer today, up by 143 points. The Hang Seng ended lower by 298 points. Shanghai and Taiwan also ended on a negative note.
Buzzers: Tata Power posted a loss of Rs 115 crore in Q1FY14, following which it dropped on the bourses. The stock made a new 52-week low of Rs 68.10.
Bajaj Auto may shift production from its Pune plant after the workers’ indication to continue the strike. The stock was down by 3.5% today and made a low of Rs 1790.
The Nifty futures closed below the psychological level of 5550, indicating the possibility of a further downside in the next trading session.
