Markets Recovers But Ends In The Red

The India equity market saw some amount of recovery after the mid-session today. Buying majorly took place in the sectors of Metals and Oil & Gas. Although the market recovered from the lower end, it could not hold on high and ended the day on a negative note. The Nifty ended down by 23 points at 5519.

The Sensex closed at 18664, down by 68 points. The indices ended in red down by 0.42% and 0.36% respectively.

The advance-decline ratio ended on an equal note. On the NSE,1695 shares closed in green, while 1614 shares ended the day in red.

Top Nifty Gainers: Tata Power closed the day as the top gainer on the NSE as it closed higher by 7.8%, followed by NMDC, Tata Steel and Sesa Goa.

Top Nifty Losers: Lupin closed the day as the top loser on the NSE as it closed lower by 6.6% followed by HCL Tech, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma and Tata Motors.

On the sectoral front, 7 out of the 13 sectors ended in the green. Oil & Gas and Metals were the top gainers as they ended higher by 224 points and 214 points respectively. These were followed by Consumer Durables and Bankex which ended the day higher by 63 points and 56 points respectively. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps were also up by 35 points and 64 points respectively.

The Asian markets closed on a negative note. In the Asian clan, Nikkei was the top loser as it ended the day down by 576 points. It was followed by Hang Seng which ended lower by 334 points. The Shanghai Composite and Taiwan too ended on a negative note.

Buzzers: NMDC announced its quarterly numbers wherein it reported a net profit that was down by 17.51% to Rs 1572.19 crore, on a yearly basis. However, the stock closed up by 5% and made a high of Rs 103.50 per share.

Nifty Futures closed on the pivot level of 5550. Tomorrow’s opening will decide further movement on the markets.
