Indices Bleed: Sensex Close Below 18K Levels

The Indian markets nosedived in today’s session without a single sign of recovery till the closing session. The Sensex fell by more than 500 points and ended at 17968. The Nifty ended down by 189 points to close at 5278 level.

The advance-decline ratio was negative in the closing session. On the NSE, 1217 shares closed in green, while 2108 shares ended the day in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Infosys closed the day as the top gainer on the NSE, managed to close in green on a flat note with a gain of mere 0.8%. It is followed by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Sesa Goa and HCL Tech were the others which closed the day on a positive note.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: IDFC was the top loser, down by 16.5%, followed by BHEL, JP Associates, HDFC Bank and IndusInd Bank.
The broader indices too witnessed a free fall. Bank Nifty was the top loser for the day, as it lost 569 points. It is followed by the Capital Goods and Metal indices which fell over by 345 points and 278 points respectively. Also Oil & Gas, Auto, FMCG and Healthcare saw fall of more than 150 points each. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps ended on negative note down by 112 points and 89 points respectively.
On the Asian front, Hang Seng ended the day lower by130 points followed by Nikkei which closed in red down by 93 points. Taiwan and KOSPI too ended on a negative note.
Buzzers: Most of the heavyweights crashed by more than 4% in today’s trade. HDFC was down by 7.8%, followed by Ranbaxy Laboratories (-6.4%), Reliance Infrastructure (-6.3%), Axis Bank (-6.04%), NTPC (-6%), ACC (-5.9%), Jindal Steel (-5.7%), L&T (-5.4%), Hindalco (-5.03%), DLF (-5.02%).
The Bank Nifty hit new one year low of 8825 and closed at 8857.
The Nifty Future closed below 5300 level which is a negative indicator for further trading session.
