Markets Choppy, FOMC Meet Ahead

The Indian markets witnessed a flattish but negative opening today. Most of the banking stocks are trading in the red in today’s morning session. The Nifty is down by 14 points at 5825 and Sensex has dropped 25 points to move to 19717. After dipping sharply yesterday, Ranbaxy Labs has moved to being the top gainer so far today, up by 3.7%.

The Indian markets witnessed a flattish but negative opening today. Most of the banking stocks are trading in the red in today’s morning session. The Nifty is down by 14 points at 5825 and Sensex has dropped 25 points to move to 19717. Both indices opened lower in the range of 0.21-0.34%. The global scenario is also looking weaker.

The advance-decline ratio is on the negative side too. On the NSE, 1520 shares are trading in gains and 1808 shares are down.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Ranbaxy Labs, the strongest loser in yesterday's trading session, has moved to being the top gainer so far today, up by 3.7%, followed by Dr Reddy’s Labs, HCL Tech, Grasim and Sesa Goa.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Bank of Baroda is trading lower by 3.7%. Among the other stocks trading lower are Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma and Power Grid Corp.

9 out of the 13 sectors are trading in the red so far in the day. Bankex is the top loser this morning, down by 129 points, Capital Goods has dipped 86 points, Oil & Gas has lost 52 points and Consumer Durables is 47 points lower. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps are both down by 25 points.

In the Asian markets, the Nikkei market is down by 64 points and Hang Seng has moved lower by 57 points. KOSPI and Taiwan Weighted are also showing a nominal negative bias.

Buzzer: BHEL has clamped down on defaulters and started issuing legal notices for non-payment of dues. The scrip moved down by 1.6% and came to the technical level of Rs 130. If it breaks this major support, it may touch the Rs 126 level till the closing session.

Nifty Futures has vital support around 5820-5800. If it moves below this level, the market may fall further.
