Auto Sales Figures For September 2013

With the declaration of its numbers for the month of September, the Auto industry has sent out mixed signals in terms of performance.
Maruti Suzuki has posted impressive sales number whereas other listed players like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra posted muted sales volumes for the month of September 2013. However, the two wheeler companies have posted remarkable growth in their sales volumes last month.
Maruti Suzuki, the leading car maker in India has posted an impressive sales figure where the total car sales of the company have risen by 12% to 104964 units in September 2013 as against 93988 units of previous year. On yearly basis, the exports witnessed stupendous growth of 181% to 14565 units where domestic sale rose by 2% to 90399 units. Its passenger car segment posted the growth of 15% as its super compact car “Dzire” witnessed the remarkable sales growth of 43% to 16708 units while sales of Utility Vehicle and Vans have declined by 63% and 30% respectively on YoY basis.
The sales volumes of Tata Motors are under pressure as the total sales of the company have dropped by 33% to 50427 units in September 2013 as compared to 75773 units of previous year. The exports have moved down by 19% to 4429 units and domestic sales of the company have slumped by 5% to 45998 units. Sales of Passenger vehicles which consist of passenger cars and utility vehicles had declined by 40% to stand at 12879 units whereas the sales of the Commercial vehicles have suffered by 31%.
On yearly basis, Mahindra & Mahindra has also witnessed decline in its overall sales volumes by 10% to 43289 units on YoY basis. The domestic sales have slumped by 10% whereas exports have dropped by 11%. However, sales of its commercial vehicles have improved by 2% to 14709 units. Significant improvement in the tractors sales was reported by the company due to good monsoon. The total sales of tractors rose by 33% to 20085 units as the domestic sales of tractors rose by 37% to 18908, however export dropped by 39%.
Among non-listed four wheeler companies, Hyundai and Toyota witnessed marginal decline in their total sales by mere 1% on a yearly basis. The sales volumes of Honda grew by 88% supported by “Amaze” and “City” which had witnessed astonishing performance. Further, elevated demand of newly launched SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) Ford EcoSport has enhanced the overall sales of Ford India as the overall sales grew by 51% to 14217 units.
On two wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp has reported impressive growth of 15% to 468670 units in September 2013 as against 404787 units of previous year.
Bajaj Auto witnessed second highest total sales ever for any September. The total sales of the company rose by 2% to 367815 units while the company reported the highest ever exports for any September sales figure which improved by 10% to 146847 units. Its most popular vehicle Pulsar witnessed the sales of 100000 units.
Total sales volumes of TVS Motors had improved by 15% to 189609 units on a YoY basis for September 2013. Exports of the company have jumped up by 46% whereas domestic sales rose by 13%. The company has witnessed impressive performance in its motorcycle sales which surged by 30%. Even the three wheeler segment was able to report 55% growth.
Among the non-listed two wheeler players Honda witnessed 32% growth in its sales volumes where as Yamaha reported 42% improvement in its sales on YoY basis.
Finally, we can see some upward trend in the industry as majority of the players in the auto sector have shown positive performance. As per the new scheme of RBI (Reserve Bank of India) and Finance Ministry, “Funding for leading”, car loans would be cheaper which in turn is likely to improve the growth rate for the industry.
