Sensex Closes 300 Points Off Day’s High

The indices saw volatile trades after mid-session, with basket selling witnessed at the higher levels. The Nifty did not manage to hold on to its gains and closed 27 points lower at 6187 and Sensex was down by 72 points at 20822.
The indices saw volatile trades after mid-session, with basket selling witnessed at the higher levels. The Nifty did not manage to hold on to its gains and closed 27 points lower at 6187 and Sensex was down by 72 points at 20822. Both the indices ended negative in the range of 0.35%-0.45%.
The NSE had a negative advance-decline ratio, with 1444 shares closing in the green and 1782 shares in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Tata Steel closed with the highest gains on the index, up by 3.7%. HCL Tech, Infosys, TCS and Hindalco were among the other stocks that ended the day higher.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: Bank of India closed lower by 5.9%, followed by DLF, BHEL, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank.
Most of the sectoral indices closed in the negative zone today, apart from IT and Metals. Bankex and Consumer Durables were hammered down by 272 points and 136 points respectively. Auto and Capital Goods were both down by around 120 points. Mid-Caps closed lower by 65 points each.
In the Asian markets, Hang Seng closed 155 points lower and Nikkei lost 109 points. KOSPI and Shanghai Composite also closed on a negative note.
Buzzer: Dena Bank witnessed panic selling on the bourses after mid-session. The stock made an intraday low of Rs 58.40 and closed below the technical level of Rs 60. If it dips below this level, it may touch Rs 52 in the next few trading sessions.
Nifty Futures closed below the crucial support level of 6250. Going ahead, traders would eye the 6180 level.
