Markets End At Day’s Low

The Indian markets failed to sustain their gains today, as selling pressure extended after mid-session. Nifty closed 60 points negative at 6018 and Sensex was down by 223 points at 20265. All the sectoral indices closed in the red, except for the defensive FMGC.
The Indian markets failed to sustain the gains seen earlier in the day, as selling pressure extended after mid-session. Nifty closed 60 points negative at 6018 and Sensex was down by 223 points at 20265. Both the indices ended lower in the range of 1%-1.09%.
On the NSE, the advance-decline ratio was on the negative side, 1357 shares closed in the green and 1885 shares were in the red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Ranbaxy Labs closed with the highest gains on the index, up by 1.3%. M&M, ITC, Cairn and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the others that ended the day higher.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: JP Associates closed lower by 4.6%, followed by Tata Motors, Sesa Sterlite, Tata Power and Asian Paints.
All the sectoral indices barring FMGC closed in the red today. Bankex, Auto and Metals were all down by over 150 points. Capital Goods lost 135 points and Oil & Gas closed 95 points lower. IT, Mid-Caps and Small-Caps also closed lower by around 50 points each.
Among the Asian markets, the Hang Seng was 168 points lower by day’s end, while Nikkei gained 318 points. Straits Times and Shanghai Composite also closed on a positive note.
Buzzer: The stock of Asian Paints saw panic selling on the bourses after mid-session. It made an intraday low of Rs 528 and closed below the technical level of Rs 535. If the stock dips below this level ahead, it may touch the Rs 500 mark in the next few trading sessions.
Nifty Futures has closed below the crucial support level of 6180 today.
