Nifty, Sensex End Marginally Higher

After directionless trades for most of the day, the markets saw somewhat positive moves near the close of business. Nifty was higher by 14 points at 6203, and Sensex was up by 27 points at 20875.
The Indian markets witnessed directionless trades from the morning session but saw somewhat positive moves around the end of day. Nifty closed higher by 14 points at 6203, and Sensex was up by 27 points at 20875. Both the indices ended higher in the range of 0.21%-0.13%.
On the NSE, the advance-decline ratio was balanced, with 1627 shares closing in the green and 1638 shares in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Hindalco remained the top gainer for the day, closing up by 4.5%. PNB, Jindal Steel, Bank of Baroda and Coal India were among the others that ended the day higher.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: Sesa Sterlite closed lower by 1.94% today, followed by BPCL, Power Grid Corp, HDFC Bank and Coal India.
Most of the sectoral indices closed in the green. Capital Goods remained the top gainer, up by 125 points. Bankex, IT and Auto were up in the range of 20-30 points. Both Mid-Caps and Small-Caps also surged by 30 points. On the other hand, Consumer Durables, FMCG and Healthcare stocks remained under selling pressure.
In the Asian markets, Nikkei saw a loss of 37 points by day’s end. Hang Seng, Straits Times and Shanghai Composite also closed in negatives. Taiwan Weighted and KOSPI held their gains, closing higher by 68 points and 20 points respectively.
Buzzer: Jindal Steel saw buying on the bourses after mid-session. It made an intraday high of Rs 257 and closed above the technical level of Rs 250. If the stock opens above this level tomorrow, it may continue with this positive momentum.
Nifty Futures surged well and took support at the lower level of 6180 today. This level will be a vital support in further trades.
