Markets Nosedive, Bankex Top Loser

The Indian markets opened with a negative sentiment after witnessing an uptrend earlier in the week. Nifty was down 26 points at 6306 and Sensex lost 84 points to move to 21170. Most of the sectoral indices are also trading in the red.

The Indian markets opened with a negative sentiment after witnessing an uptrend earlier in the week. Nifty was down 26 points at 6306 and Sensex lost 84 points to move to 21170. Both indices opened lower by 0.40%.

The advance-decline ratio is negative side in the morning session. On the NSE, 1588 shares are trading in gains and 1636 shares are down.

Top Nifty Gainers: NTPC is the top gainer for today’s morning session up by 2.74% followed by Jindal Steel, Hindalco, ITC and Maruti Suzuki.

Top Nifty Losers: Tata Motors is down by 2.70% so far, followed by IDFC, DLF, IndusInd Bank and ONGC.

11 out of the 13 sectors are trading in the red. Bankex is top loser, down by 133 points. Capital Goods has lost 94 points and Auto has dipped by 74 points. FMCG, though, is showing some strength to move up by 34 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps are trading with a positive bias, up by 4 points and 9 points respectively.

All the Asian markets are in negatives. Hang Seng is sharply down by 310 points and Nikkei has dropped by 104 points. KOSPI, Shanghai Composite and Straits Times too are trading lower.

Buzzer: Coal India has dropped on the bourses on reports that the competition regulator has slapped a penalty of Rs 1770 crore on the state-run coal miner for abusing its dominant position and imposing unfair conditions in fuel supply agreements with customers.

Nifty Futures has broken its major support around the 6350 level. If it drops below this level, the index may see more weakness.
