Awaiting Key Triggers

The Indian markets traded in a small range till the end of the day, with Nifty closing 13 points lower at 6154 and Sensex down by 56 points at 20659. Among the sectoral indices, IT and Healthcare surged strongly up by 133 points and 76 points respectively. Aurobindo Pharma jumped 12% on the bourses in today’s session.

The Indian markets traded in a small range till the end of the day. The indices seem to be awaiting big triggers like the FOMC meeting and the RBI policy announcement. The outcome of these events may determine the further direction of the markets. In today’s session, Nifty ended 13 points lower at 6154 and Sensex was down by 56 points to close at 20659. Both indices closed negative in the range of 0.22%-0.27%.

The advance-decline ratio on the NSE remained in negative. 1738 shares closed in the green and 1403 shares were in red.

Top Nifty Gainers: Sesa Sterlite closed higher by 4.5% in today’s trades, followed by Infosys, Tata Power, Axis Bank and Power Grid Corporation.

Top Nifty Losers: Jindal Steel ended the day lower by 3.2%. Among the other stocks that closed in negatives were Sun Pharma, M&M, Bharti Airtel and Reliance.


Among the sectoral indices, IT and Healthcare surged strongly up by 133 points and 76 points respectively. Consumer Durables and Capital Goods also moved higher by around 70 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps closed the day higher. Oil & Gas and Auto, however, remained under selling pressure, down by 137 points and 84 points respectively. 

All the Asian markets closed in the negative zone. Nikkei was the top loser for the day, down by 250 points, and Hang Seng also lost 130 points.

Buzzer: Aurobindo Pharma jumped 12% on the bourses in today’s session after the company received final approval from the USFDA to manufacture and market a generic medicine in the United States. The scrip closed at the technical level around Rs 350. If the stock continues to remain above this level, it may move up to the Rs 370 mark in the next few sessions.

Nifty Futures has major support at 6150 for tomorrow’s opening, while 6200 will be a strong resistance.
