Sensex Closes Below 21000 Mark, Healthcare & Auto Plunges

The BSE Sensex closed the first day of week down by 194 points at 20925 and the Nifty closed down by 55 points to trade at 6221.Healthcare sector was the biggest loser of the day down by 168 points. Auto and IT sectors were also hammered and closed in red. Jindal steel gained 1.27% on the bourses today.

The Indian markets witnessed sharp fall after mid-session. Health Care, Auto, IT and Bankex were hammered and also closed below their respective supports levels. As a result, Nifty closed down by 55 points at 6221 and Sensex was 194 points lower at 20925.

The advance-decline ratio on NSE was on the negative side as the day ended with 1498 shares in green and 1800 shares in the red zone.

Top Nifty Gainers: Jindal Steel gained 1.27% in today’s trade, followed by NMDC, IDFC, Cairn India and ITC.

Top Nifty Losers: HCL Tech closed the day lower by 4.5%, followed by JP Associates, Sun Pharma, BHEL and Dr Reddy’s Labs.

Most of the sectoral indices closed on the negative side. Health Care was the biggest loser of the day, down by 168 points. Auto and IT also hammered by 149 points and 122 points respectively. Capital Goods and Bankex also closed on a negative note down more than 100 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps witnessed negative trade too. However, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas saw some positive trade. 

On the Asian markets front, the Nikkei market closed in the negative territory, down by 188 points. Hang Seng closed down by 336 points. Strait Times and Taiwan closed on negative note as well.  

Buzzer: HCL Tech was down more than 4% on the bourses today and closed near the technical level of Rs 1504. If the stock opens below this level, it may touch the Rs 1470 mark in the next few sessions.

Nifty futures is stuck near the higher level which is 6300 and also closed below the technical level of 6250, indicating a negative scenario ahead.
