Indices Struggle But Close On A Positive Note

Indian markets closed on a marginal positive note, owing to a sell-off in major sectoral indices. Nifty closed the day up by 12 points at 6516 and the Sensex closed up by 22 points to trade at 21832. Maruti Suzuki gained 7.48% in today’s trade whereas Tata Motors closed the day lower by 3.05%. Asian markets were trading higher and closed the day in the positive territory

The Indian markets witnessed some selling pressure in closing session. However indices managed to close in positive territory. FMCG and Bankex were the top gainers on the other hand IT, Capital Goods and Auto witnessed some negative trade. The Nifty closed positive by 12 points at 6516 and Sensex was 22 points higher by 21832.

The advance-decline ratio on NSE was on the positive side as the day ended with 1798 shares in green and 1570 shares in the red zone.

Top Nifty Gainers: Maruti Suzuki gained 7.48% in today’s trade, followed by Power Grid Corp, IndusInd Bank, SBI and ITC.

Top Nifty Losers: Tata Motors closed the day lower by 3.05%, followed by M&M, Lupin, Wipro and Infosys.

The sectoral indices closed on mixed note. FMCG and Bankex were the out performer of the day up 123 points and 74 points respectively. Oil & Gas and Metals also witnessed a pull up around 60 points each. Mid-Caps and Small Caps saw some positive trade. However IT, Capital Goods and Auto were hammered well down by around 72 points and 40 points respectively. 

On the Asian markets front, the Nikkei market closed in positive territory, up by 133 points. Hang Seng closed on positive note up by 109 points. Shanghai Composite and KOSPI closed on the positive side.  

Buzzer: Power Grid Corp was up more than 3% on the bourses today and closed near the technical level of Rs 100. If the stock opens above this level, it may touch the Rs 107/112 mark in the next few sessions.

Nifty futures closed above the technical level of 6500, which is the positive indicator. The level of 6480 and 6445 will be the vital supports for tomorrow’s trading session.
