40 Products, One Mega Bet: L&T Enters India’s Next Big Technology Wave

L&T Semiconductor Technologies has unveiled 40 products at SEMICON India 2026, led by its first 1,200V silicon carbide platform and an India-designed BLDC motor-controller chip.

Key Takeaways

L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited, the wholly owned semiconductor arm of Larsen & Toubro, has unveiled 40 products at SEMICON India 2026, widening the group’s push into chip design for power electronics, secure identity, communications, surveillance and artificial intelligence-led computing.

The most consequential launch was LTSCT’s first silicon carbide, or SiC, product platform, built around a high-performance 1,200V SiC MOSFET. The company said the platform is aimed at next-generation power-conversion applications such as EV fast chargers, microgrids, solid-state Transformers and traction inverters.

The move places LTSCT in a segment where efficiency and high-voltage performance are increasingly important as electric mobility, renewable-energy integration and industrial electrification expand. Silicon carbide devices can be used in systems requiring lower energy losses and higher operating performance than conventional silicon-based power devices.

LTSCT also announced the tape-out of a highly integrated BLDC motor-controller chip that has been fully designed in India. Tape-out is the stage at which a semiconductor design is finalised and sent for fabrication, rather than a confirmation of commercial availability. The company said the controller includes protection features designed to support longer product warranties and a flexible architecture that can serve multiple product models while reducing bill-of-materials costs.

The application focus on BLDC ceiling fans could be relevant in India’s shift towards more energy-efficient appliances. However, LTSCT did not disclose manufacturing arrangements, customer qualifications, commercial shipment timelines or expected revenue from either the SiC platform or the BLDC controller. The broader 40-product showcase was organised under the theme ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’. It included a Vision Camera system-on-chip combining image processing and on-device AI acceleration, a secure-identity platform for e-passports, payment cards and national ID systems, and connectivity modules for smart metering, automobiles and digital payments.

Among these was the LCC43 Dynamic QR and Soundbox proof of concept for NPCI’s proposed Trusted Device Layer. LTSCT also demonstrated an in-house-designed USB-C gallium nitride charger, along with MOSFETs, diodes, bridge rectifiers and SiC power modules.

The product pipeline is strategically important for L&T because it extends the group’s technology presence beyond engineering and IT services into intellectual property-led semiconductor products. LTSCT sits within L&T’s IT and Technology Services segment, which reported 15 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in the first quarter of FY27, led by LTM and L&T Technology Services. The quarterly presentation, however, does not separately disclose LTSCT’s operating performance.

The semiconductor unit remains at an investment-heavy stage. In FY26, LTSCT reported revenue of Rs 298.89 crore and a loss after Tax of Rs 354.41 crore, according to L&T’s annual disclosures. The new portfolio therefore offers a clearer view of the products through which the company intends to build commercial scale, though converting designs into qualified, market-ready devices will be the key execution test.

Dr Sandeep Kumar, Chief Executive of L&T Semiconductor Technologies, said the company was intended to support India’s trusted and self-reliant chip ecosystem through investment, engineering talent and long-term commitment.

As of 11:35 am on September 18, 2026, Larsen & Toubro shares were trading at Rs 3,866.20, up 0.94 per cent from the previous close. The stock has gained 8.88 per cent over the past year, outperforming the BSE 500’s 3.73 per cent decline over the same period by 12.61 percentage points. It was about 12.5 per cent below its 52-week high of Rs 4,417.15.
