BCCL commences commercial operations at Bhojudih Coal Washery

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, informed exchanges that commercial operations of its 2.0 MTPA Bhojudih Coal Washery commenced with effect from May 26, 2026. The company stated that the Bhojudih Coal Washery is a three-product medium coking coal washery having raw coal washing capacity of 2.0 MTPA, equivalent to 20 lakh tonnes per annum.

According to the filing, the washery has been developed under the Build, Operate and Maintain (BOM) model and is equipped with technologies including Heavy Media Cyclone, Spiral Concentrator and Froth Flotation systems for beneficiation of coking coal. The company added that the washery will facilitate production of washed coking coal for supply to the steel sector.

Coal washing infrastructure to support steel sector supply

Coal washeries are used to improve coal quality by reducing ash content and enhancing efficiency for industrial applications. The Bhojudih Coal Washery is expected to support processing and supply of coking coal required by steel manufacturers.

The commissioning also marks expansion of coal beneficiation infrastructure within Coal India’s coking coal business operations.
