Editor Responds : Currently the market is quite volatile, and in that sense, a balanced advantage fund does provide some downside protection as it holds debt component. However, when the markets begin to rally, these funds would prove to be laggards for the very same reason – debt exposure. Hence, while investing in balanced advantage funds it is prudent to assess your risk profile and understand your investment horizon. For conservative investors, balanced advantage funds do make sense.
