Key Takeaways

Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd. has entered the fast-moving consumer goods space with the launch of CHUSIP Coco Twist, a tender coconut water drink, as it seeks to build a Rs 2,500 crore beverage business by 2035. The Chennai-based company unveiled its first fresh beverage portfolio on September 17, 2026, beginning with a South India-focused distribution strategy across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. KICL plans to appoint 100 distributors and trade partners in the first phase before widening availability through general trade, modern retail and digital commerce.

CHUSIP Coco Twist is currently available in a 200 ml pack priced at Rs 50. The company said it would introduce a one-litre pack shortly, followed by additional flavours and drink formats. Its planned portfolio extends beyond coconut water to fruit drinks, fruit drinks with and without pulp, and products containing Nata De Coco. The launch is a notable diversification step for KICL, which has built businesses across fertilisers, footwear and leather, Logistics, drones, hospitality and digital media. The beverage plan introduces a consumer-facing packaged-drinks platform at a time when the company is already managing several new and developing business lines.

KICL said Coco Twist is sourced from coconut farms in Tamil Nadu and is made with 100 per cent natural tender coconut water, without added sugar or preservatives. The company is positioning the product around convenience, low-calorie refreshment and demand among younger consumers for more natural beverage choices.

Dr. Jinnah Rafiq Ahamed, Executive Director of KICL, unveiled the portfolio at the company’s Chennai office. Management said its consumer research indicated a shift towards healthier, natural and authentic products, adding that the launch was intended to create a portfolio built around nature, health and trust. The Rs 2,500 crore revenue aspiration is ambitious relative to KICL’s present operating scale. On a consolidated basis, the company reported revenue from operations of Rs 178.30 crore in FY2025-26, more than double the Rs 86.64 crore reported in the preceding year. However, its consolidated loss after Tax widened to Rs 72.19 crore from Rs 16.17 crore, underscoring that the new beverage initiative will need to establish distribution scale and product economics while the group works to improve profitability across its wider portfolio.

The company’s latest quarterly financial data also reflects the pressure from expansion and operating costs. Net sales stood at Rs 52.44 crore in the latest reported quarter, up 17.79 per cent sequentially and 33.78 per cent from a year earlier. Yet, the company reported a loss after tax of Rs 16.27 crore for the quarter, compared with a loss of Rs 14.07 crore in the preceding quarter.

For the beverage business, execution will depend on the ability to secure shelf space, build repeat demand and manage sourcing and cold-chain or distribution requirements in a competitive packaged-drinks market. KICL has not disclosed a separate investment outlay, production capacity or revenue timeline for Coco Twist beyond its 2035 business target.

International expansion is part of the longer-term plan, although the immediate priority remains building the brand in South India through sustained marketing and wider trade reach.
