A key feature of the new engines is the indigenously developed Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, which helps reduce emissions while maintaining smooth engine operation and meeting the latest TREM V emission requirements. Fieldmarshal has also filed multiple national patents in India related to its TREM V engine technology, highlighting its growing investment in research, engineering development and intellectual property.

Built to withstand demanding operating conditions and extended working hours, the engines feature rugged Construction, compact packaging, efficient cooling systems and easy maintenance.

Commenting on the launch, Mr Rishi Patel, Director, Fieldmarshal P.M. Diesels, said, “The development of our TREM V engine platform represents an important milestone in Fieldmarshal’s engineering journey. For more than six decades, our focus has been on developing dependable products suited to real operating conditions. The launch of our ARAI TREM V-compliant 15 HP and 18 HP single-cylinder engines, together with our multiple national patent filings around the technology, demonstrates the growing capabilities of indigenous Indian engineering.”

Strengthening Its Position in the Compact Tractor Market

Beyond engine manufacturing, the launch is expected to strengthen Fieldmarshal’s position in India’s specialised compact tractor market through its Shridev brand.

The below-20 HP tractor segment accounts for approximately 3 per cent of India’s overall tractor market, with annual industry sales estimated at 40,000–45,000 units. Fieldmarshal currently serves this segment through its Shridev range of 12 HP, 15 HP and 18 HP tractors.

Over the next three years, the company aims to gradually increase its market share in the below-20 HP category to 10–15 per cent.

Its expansion plans, however, are not limited to compact tractors. Fieldmarshal intends to introduce tractors with capacities of up to 30 HP in the near term, while its longer-term research and development roadmap covers models of up to 100 HP.

Through these developments, the company plans to broaden Shridev’s product range and establish it as a tractor brand serving different horsepower categories in both domestic and international markets.

Speaking about the company’s future plans, Mr Rishi Patel said, “Our ambition extends well beyond the 15 HP and 18 HP categories. We are building a wider technology and product roadmap across engines, tractors and agricultural mechanisation while simultaneously expanding into water solutions, clean energy and infrastructure-oriented equipment. Our objective is to combine Fieldmarshal’s engineering heritage with new technologies and products capable of serving the next generation of customers in India and globally.”

Six Decades of Manufacturing and Engineering Expertise

Established in 1963 as M/s Patel Manufacturers, Fieldmarshal began operations with an annual production capacity of just 80 diesel engines. Over the years, it has expanded into a diversified engineering company with an engine-manufacturing capacity exceeding 1,60,000 units annually.

The company has also developed manufacturing partnerships and relationships with major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These include a joint manufacturing collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) at its Shapar facility, along with OEM relationships with Sonalika, ACE and KAMCO.

In addition to its engine operations, Fieldmarshal has a dedicated manufacturing facility for Shridev tractors with a production capacity of up to 100 tractors per day.

These manufacturing capabilities provide the company with an established base as it expands its tractor portfolio and develops new engine technologies.

International Expansion and Higher-Horsepower Engines

International markets are another important part of Fieldmarshal’s growth strategy. With its products already reaching more than 60 countries, the company is working on Euro V-compatible engines for export markets.

Its future development plans also include higher-horsepower engines of up to 100 HP, alongside a wider tractor range for overseas markets.

Fieldmarshal intends to progressively develop and export tractors of up to 100 HP, creating opportunities to strengthen relationships with international distributors, agricultural equipment manufacturers and OEM customers.

The company aims to use its existing manufacturing and engineering capabilities to expand its product offerings while addressing the requirements of different agricultural markets.

Diversification into Clean Energy, Water Solutions and Infrastructure Equipment

Alongside its core engine and tractor businesses, Fieldmarshal is pursuing opportunities in other engineering and industrial segments.

The company’s longer-term strategy includes expansion across agricultural mechanisation, garden tools and implements, water solutions, clean energy, energy storage, cleaning and infrastructure equipment, and the electric vehicle segment.

In the clean energy space, Fieldmarshal is expanding through Fieldmarshal–Voltuel, which focuses on Solar and grid-connected power solutions, lithium-ion energy storage and related technologies.

As part of its future plans, Fieldmarshal–Voltuel also intends to develop capabilities in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), extending the Group’s presence in energy storage and sustainable power solutions.

Another area of expansion is industrial and infrastructure cleaning equipment. Fieldmarshal is developing a dedicated business vertical to serve industrial, commercial, infrastructure and municipal applications.

The proposed product portfolio will include sweeping and scrubbing machines, ranging from compact and medium-duty equipment to truck-mounted systems. These machines are planned with petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid powertrain options to meet different operating requirements.

By building on its existing manufacturing, research and engineering capabilities, Fieldmarshal aims to serve a wider customer base across agricultural, residential, commercial, industrial, infrastructure, transport, municipal, government and institutional markets, both in India and overseas.

Understanding TREM V Emission Standards

TREM V stands for Tractor Emission Stage V, India's next-generation emission standard for agricultural machinery, including tractors, power tillers and combine harvesters.

While its objective of reducing harmful emissions is broadly similar to that of BS-VI standards for road vehicles, TREM operates under a separate regulatory framework designed for off-road and agricultural equipment.

In 2020, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) introduced separate nomenclature for agricultural machinery under TREM, distinguishing it from Construction Equipment Vehicle (CEV) emission standards.

To meet TREM V requirements, tractor and engine manufacturers must ensure that their engines and emission-control systems comply with prescribed limits for pollutants, including:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO): A harmful gas produced during incomplete combustion.
  • Hydrocarbons (HC): Unburnt fuel compounds released through exhaust emissions.
  • Nitrogen Oxides (NOx): Pollutants formed during high-temperature combustion.
  • Particulate Matter (PM): Fine particles produced during diesel combustion.
  • Particle Number (PN): The number of particles emitted, applicable to specified engine power categories.

Manufacturers are also required to undergo prescribed type-approval and Conformity of Production (CoP) testing under the applicable provisions of AIS-137 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

These requirements are intended to reduce emissions from agricultural machinery while ensuring that engines meet the relevant regulatory standards.
