Hyderabad-based MosChip Technologies has successfully achieved the silicon bring-up of a custom System-on-Chip (SoC) for the Space Applications Centre (SAC), a premier R&D arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Developed on a 28nm technology node, this milestone marks the completion of a comprehensive turnkey ASIC program, transitioning from the initial netlist phase to fully functional, packaged silicon. MosChip’s role extended beyond design, encompassing the substrate design for a 10-layer FC-CBGA package and rigorous validation on Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to ensure the hardware meets the stringent performance specifications required for India’s Satellite Navigation Program.
The program highlights MosChip’s integrated turnkey capabilities, where the firm managed every critical phase, including DFT architecture, physical design, package routing, and post-silicon validation. By maintaining single-owner accountability throughout the lifecycle, MosChip successfully reduced interface risks and compressed development timelines, ensuring a cohesive execution across silicon, packaging, and testing. This end-to-end delivery provides SAC with validated engineering samples, allowing the centre to advance toward the next stage of productisation for critical space-borne applications.
As a leading centre of excellence, SAC specialises in the design of innovative satellite systems for communication, earth observation, and navigation that serve both national and international stakeholders. This collaboration underscores the growing synergy between India’s private Semiconductor sector and its national space program, reinforcing the country's self-Reliance in deep-tech innovation. With over 25 years of expertise and more than 600 successful tape-outs, MosChip’s successful delivery of this space-grade SoC further solidifies its position as a trusted partner for complex, mission-critical silicon engineering.
Srinivasa Rao Kakumanu, CEO & MD, MosChip Technologies, said, “We are proud to have delivered this critical program. This milestone validates MosChip’s turnkey Netlist-to-Silicon capability and our commitment to single-owner accountability from design intent to validated silicon. By unifying design, implementation, packaging, and ATE validation, we help customers move from Spec/RTL to silicon with predictable schedules and first-pass silicon success.”
