Kalandan Mohammed Haris, CEO and Managing Director, noted that this achievement reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable diversification and positions Mukka Proteins for significant platform-led growth in the coming phases.
Mukka Proteins Limited, a leading name in the fish protein industry, has achieved a key milestone in its sustainability roadmap by formally listing its Black Soldier Fly (BSF)–based municipal wet-waste processing project on the Verra Registry. Alongside this, the company has secured approval for a major capacity expansion to 1,000 tons per day (TPD), significantly strengthening its circular-economy positioning and potential for carbon credit generation.
The company’s BSF-driven Bengaluru operations, currently processing 300 TPD of wet waste, are now registered under Verra Project ID 5893. This listing enables the project to progress toward the issuance of Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) under the Verra Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) program. As part of Verra’s formal workflow, the project has entered a mandated 30-day public comment period. After this phase, an accredited validation and verification body will undertake on-site assesSMEnts to close the registration cycle. At this stage, VCU eligibility applies to the active 300 TPD operations, with monitoring and validation aligned to the ACM0022 methodology.
In parallel, Mukka Proteins has received incremental approval to expand its BSF waste-processing capacity to 1,000 TPD within Bengaluru’s municipal waste-management framework. The project has been structured as a “grouped project” under the VCS program, allowing phased inclusion of new processing modules over time. This model offers notable advantages, including scalable carbon credit generation as new phases become operational and validated, revenue diversification from environmental services, and enhanced climate impact through BSF-driven waste management at scale.
Kalandan Mohammed Haris, CEO and Managing Director of Mukka Proteins Limited, noted that this achievement reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable diversification and positions Mukka Proteins for significant platform-led growth in the coming phases.
