JSW Energy Limited has achieved a major capacity milestone by crossing 15 GW of operational generation capacity. The company informed exchanges that its total operational capacity has increased to 15,025 MW after commissioning 1,572 MW of capacity during FY27.

The company achieved this milestone within six quarters after crossing the 10 GW capacity mark in March 2025. According to the company, this expansion represents a compound annual growth rate of around 26 per cent and highlights its progress under the long-term growth roadmap.

Renewable Energy Leads Capacity Addition

A major portion of the capacity addition during FY27 has come from renewable energy projects. Out of the total 1,572 MW added, 1,272 MW was contributed by renewable energy capacity, including 593 MW of solar capacity, 108 MW of wind capacity, 420 MW of hybrid projects and 150 MW of hydro projects. The remaining 300 MW was added through inorganic thermal capacity.

With these additions, renewable energy now accounts for more than 60 per cent of JSW Energy’s operational portfolio, with total renewable capacity standing at 9,067 MW. The renewable portfolio includes 3,125 MW of wind capacity, 2,426 MW of solar capacity, 1,735 MW of hybrid capacity and 1,781 MW of hydro capacity. The company’s thermal power portfolio stands at 5,958 MW.

JSW Energy has also achieved approximately 42 per cent of its greenfield capacity addition target of 3 GW for FY2027, keeping it on track with its planned expansion programme.

Strong Project Pipeline and Energy Storage Focus

Beyond its operational portfolio, JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.4 GW. This includes 15 GW of operational capacity, 13.4 GW of projects under construction across thermal, hydro and renewable energy segments, along with a 4 GW pipeline of projects.

The company has also built a locked-in energy storage capacity of 29.6 GWh, comprising 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage capacity and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage capacity. The expansion in storage capabilities is aimed at supporting reliable power supply as the sector shifts towards round-the-clock electricity availability.

Company Sets Long-Term Capacity Targets

JSW Energy is targeting 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. The company has also set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The company has established its presence across the power sector value chain, including power generation and transmission. JSW Energy started commercial operations in 2000 with its first 2x130 MW thermal power plants at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, and has gradually expanded its generation capacity to 15 GW.

Currently, JSW Energy is constructing power projects with a combined capacity of 13.4 GW as it works towards achieving its 30 GW generation capacity target by 2030.
