Indo Rama Synthetics approves Rs 200 crore speciality yarn and fibre expansion at Butibori

Indo Rama Synthetics will invest about Rs 200 crore in speciality filament and speciality fibre capacity at Butibori, marking a larger capital push after a sharp FY26 recovery in profitability.

✨ Key Takeaways

Indo Rama Synthetics (India) Ltd has approved an expansion investment of approximately Rs 200 crore to manufacture speciality filament and speciality fibre at its Butibori plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

The Board cleared the proposal at its meeting on October 16, 2026. The projects will be implemented by Indo Rama Synthetics and its wholly owned material subsidiary, Indorama Ventures Yarns Pvt. Ltd. Commercial operations are expected to commence within the next 12 to 18 months.

The investment signals a move towards higher-value polyester product categories at the Butibori complex, which is the company’s principal manufacturing site. Indo Rama’s existing portfolio includes polyester staple fibre, polyester filament yarn, draw texturised yarn and polyester chips, along with partially oriented yarn and fully drawn yarn.

While the company has not disclosed planned capacity, product specifications, customer commitments or expected revenue from the new facilities, the speciality focus is consistent with its earlier strategy of expanding value-added products, improving quality and increasing market penetration. In its FY26 annual report, management had said that higher capacity utilisation, product-quality improvement and debottlenecking initiatives were expected to support future growth.

The planned outlay is sizeable compared with the company’s recent capital expenditure. Indo Rama reported consolidated capital expenditure of Rs 23.79 crore in FY26, meaning the proposed Rs 200 crore investment is more than eight times that level. It is also equivalent to around 4.1 per cent of FY26 consolidated revenue from operations of Rs 4,910.06 crore.

The expansion follows a significant financial recovery in FY26. Consolidated revenue rose 15.3 per cent year-on-year, while profit after Tax increased to Rs 150.21 crore from Rs 1.40 crore in FY25. The company’s reported EBITDA rose to Rs 368.25 crore from Rs 207.99 crore, with EBITDA margin improving to 7.5 per cent from 4.9 per cent.

However, funding and execution will remain important considerations because the project is to be financed through term loans and internal accruals. Consolidated borrowings stood at Rs 1,131.60 crore as of March 31, 2026, while operating cash flow was Rs 133.89 crore during FY26. The group’s current ratio was 0.81, reflecting the working-capital intensity of its manufacturing operations.

Indorama Ventures Yarns, which will participate in the proposed investment, reported total income of Rs 583.80 crore in FY26 but posted a loss after tax of Rs 2.62 crore. The subsidiary had negative reserves of Rs 44.40 crore at the end of FY26, underlining the importance of timely commissioning and operational ramp-up for the planned expansion.

The company operates in a polyester market exposed to volatility in raw-material and finished-goods prices. Indo Rama has previously highlighted inventory management, vendor development, product differentiation and service quality as measures to manage such risks. A greater share of speciality products could potentially improve product mix, though the company has not provided margin guidance for the new facilities.

As of 3:18 PM on October 16, 2026, Indo Rama Synthetics shares were trading at Rs 96.45, up 2.77 per cent from the previous close of Rs 93.85. The stock has gained 50.81 per cent over the past year, compared with a 5.17 per cent decline in the BSE 500 over the same period. At the quoted price, it was about 9.4 per cent below its 52-week high of Rs 106.45.

The key next milestone will be greater clarity on the speciality products to be manufactured, capacity addition, customer demand and the final funding structure as the company moves towards commercial operations over the next 12 to 18 months.
