With a 14-fold surge in volume, shares of HLV Ltd, the top BSE Smallcap gainer, were locked at a 20 per cent upper circuit and traded at a new 52-week high.
After trading flat, the Indian benchmark indices ended the day higher thanks to a closing rally powered by significant gains in the majority of the sectors.
A total of eight sectors surged more than 1 per cent, with power, metals and auto stocks leading the way. The top performing sector was BSE Utilities, which soared 2.52 per cent, led by over 5 per cent gains in the shares of Adani Transmission. The session's leading laggards were BSE IT and BSE Teck.
At 3:30 pm, the BSE Sensex advanced 0.67 per cent, reaching a level of 63,099. The Nifty 50 index gained 0.75 per cent to the 18,758 level. On the Sensex, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement Company and Power Grid Corporation of India were the Top Gainers, whereas IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India and HCL Technologies were the Top Losers.
