Beyond industrial use, this transport mode will serve as a vital lifeline for disaster relief and healthcare services in remote or inaccessible regions
Transport Corporation of India (TCI) and the French aeronautical group FLYING WHALES have announced a strategic collaboration to revolutionise integrated Logistics across India. Formalised during the official summit between President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this partnership leverages FLYING WHALES' development of the LCA60T, a massive rigid cargo airship. With a payload capacity of 60 tons and the unique technical ability to load and deliver goods while in stationary flight, this innovation is designed to bypass traditional infrastructure limitations. The MOU, signed by leadership from both organisations, marks a significant step toward integrating advanced aerial technology into India's domestic supply chain.
The primary objective of this alliance is to decarbonise the transportation of heavy and bulky loads while addressing mission-critical logistics challenges in remote or underdeveloped regions. By utilising the LCA60T’s point-to-point delivery capabilities, TCI aims to enhance its multi-modal service offerings and support high-value infrastructure projects. This collaboration not only introduces a sustainable alternative to conventional heavy-lift transport but also focuses on developing new supply chain solutions that can navigate India's diverse geography with greater efficiency. This move signals a shift toward greener, more versatile industrial logistics on a national scale.
About the Company
TCI stands as a USD 1.5 billion powerhouse in the Indian logistics sector, managing approximately 2 per cent of the nation’s GDP by cargo value. With an expansive network of nearly 1,400 offices and a multimodal infrastructure spanning road, rail, air and sea, the group provides end-to-end supply chain solutions across all major industries. Their proven expertise includes navigating complex and remote terrains to deliver everything from small parcels to massive 600-ton cargo shipments.
The deployment of the LCA60T will specifically target the transportation of over-dimensional equipment and 60-ton parcels in challenging environments. This capability is set to transform logistics for critical sectors such as Defence, Energy and Infrastructure, supporting major projects like the Brahmaputra basin investment and high-altitude developments in Ladakh. Beyond industrial use, this transport mode will serve as a vital lifeline for disaster relief and healthcare services in remote or inaccessible regions
