This Multibagger Airline Company Signs Record Order for Over 1,000 LEAP Engines with CFM; Check Details

On Tuesday, Indian equity benchmarks traded lower, with the benchmark Nifty 50 index declining 50.40 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 24,188.10. Despite the weak broader market sentiment, InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) share price gained 1.00 per cent to Rs 5,281.50, rising Rs 52.50, after the airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CFM International for an order of more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, marking the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines.

IndiGo Signs Record LEAP Engine Order

The agreement, announced at the Farnborough Airshow on July 20, 2026, will supply more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, supporting IndiGo's future fleet expansion as it continues to strengthen its domestic and international network.

The landmark agreement further deepens the airline's decade-long partnership with CFM International and underlines IndiGo's long-term commitment to expanding its narrow-body fleet with next-generation fuel-efficient aircraft.

Comprehensive MRO and Long-Term Support Agreement

Apart from the engine order, the Memorandum of Understanding includes CFM International's support in establishing IndiGo's upcoming Engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility.

The agreement also covers a long-term material services programme, including the supply of spare parts, aimed at ensuring high aircraft dispatch reliability, predictable maintenance costs and long-term operational support as the airline continues to expand its fleet.

Decade-Long Partnership

IndiGo has been a CFM customer since 2016, initially operating Airbus A320ceo aircraft powered by CFM56-5B engines. In 2019, the airline expanded the partnership by ordering LEAP-1A engines for its Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleet, supporting the rapid growth of its next-generation aircraft portfolio. Today, the airline operates more than 375 Airbus A320/A321 Family aircraft powered by CFM engines.

CFM's Growing Presence in India

CFM International stated that it has delivered more than 10,000 LEAP engines globally, making it the fastest production ramp-up in commercial aviation history.

India is now CFM's third-largest market, with five Indian airlines operating more than 400 LEAP-powered aircraft and over 2,000 engines currently on order. Last year, Safran inaugurated its 45,000-square-metre LEAP engine MRO facility, designed to handle up to 300 LEAP engine shop visits annually, further strengthening its long-term commitment to India's aviation ecosystem.
