Yes Bank Ltd, an S&P BSE company, advanced 5.45 per cent to trade at Rs 20.33 apiece. Yes Bank on Friday announced that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) to acquire up to 24.99 per cent of the Bank’s paid-up share capital or voting rights. The approval, valid for one year from August 22, 2025, follows the Bank’s earlier disclosure regarding SMBC’s proposed acquisition of 20 per cent stake through secondary purchase of 13.19 per cent from State Bank of India and 6.81 per cent from seven other lenders. RBI has clarified that SMBC will not be considered a promoter of Yes Bank post acquisition. The transaction remains subject to Competition Commission of India (CCI) clearance and other customary conditions.
