322 MWp Solar Capacity Commissioned Across Nashik
The newly commissioned solar portfolio is spread across 50 locations covering 14 talukas of Nashik district. The company described it as one of the most geographically diversified agricultural feeder solarisation projects implemented under the MSKVY framework. Power generated from the projects will be supplied to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) under 25-year power purchase agreements.
The project brings solar generation closer to agricultural demand centres, with local solar plants supplying power to rural feeders. According to the company, this is expected to support daytime electricity availability for farmers, improve grid efficiency and reduce distribution losses.
Management Commentary
The commissioning involved development across multiple sites in Nashik district and required coordination on land-related matters, grid connectivity, local clearances and simultaneous construction activities.
Jigish Mehta, Whole-Time Director of Torrent Power, said the project reflects collaboration among MSEDCL, the local administration, landowners, project partners, contractors and Torrent's team. He added that the development supports the company's focus on clean energy transition and reliable daytime electricity supply for the agricultural sector.
Renewable Capacity Forms Part of Larger Expansion
The commissioning adds to Torrent Power's renewable generation portfolio as the company continues to expand its presence across the power value chain. According to the company's filing, Torrent Power has an aggregate operational generation capacity of 6.66 GWp, comprising 2.73 GW of gas-based capacity, 2.2 GWp of renewable capacity and 1.73 GW of coal-based capacity. A further 4.56 GWp of renewable projects, 3 GW of pumped storage capacity and 1.6 GW of coal-based capacity are under construction.
Including projects under construction, the company's total generation capacity stands at around 12.82 GWp, in addition to 3 GW of pumped storage capacity.
