Indices Pull Back, But End In Red

The Indian markets witness some smart pullback post mid-session but fails to close in green. The sectors like Metals, IT and Oil & Gas witnessed heavy selling pressure in the closing hours of trade. As a result the Nifty closed the day down by 29 points at 6162 and Sensex slid 94 points to 20693.

The Indian markets witness some smart pullback post mid-session but fails to close in green. The sectors like Metals, IT and Oil & Gas witnessed heavy selling pressure in the closing hours of trade. As a result the Nifty closed the day down by 29 points at 6162 and Sensex slid 94 points to 20693. 

The advance-decline ratio on the NSE points towards a mix session by day’s end. As 1469 shares closed in green and 1458 shares were in red.

Top Nifty Gainers: Maruti Suzuki gained 2.1% in today’s trades, followed by IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, L&T and ICICI Bank.

Top Nifty Losers: Tata Steel closed the day lower by 3.3%. Among the other stocks in negatives were Bank of Baroda, Tata Power, Sesa Sterlite and JP Associates.

Among the sectoral indices, Metals saw the sharpest losses, down by 162 points. IT and Oil & Gas also dipped by 115 points. Mid-Caps also closed the day in red, down by 25 points and Small Caps was up by 24 points. Capital Goods and Consumer Durables closed in green zone up 48 points and 12 points respectively.

The Asian market closed on a mixed note. Nikkei ended 94 points down and Hang Seng was 28 points higher. Taiwan Weighted and Shanghai Composite were also in positive.

Buzzer: Maruti Suzuki gained more than 2.1% on the bourses today and closed above the technical level of Rs 1840. If the stock remains above this level, it may touch the Rs 1870 mark in the next few sessions.

For the last four consecutive days Nifty Future closed on a negative note. Indicating more weakness ahead however 6150 level will the vital support level for tomorrow’s trade.
