Stock Hits 52-Week High: PVR INOX Q2 Profit Jumps 149% as Cinema Recovery Gains Momentum
PVR INOX reported consolidated Q2 profit of Rs 263.1 crore, up 149 per cent YoY, supported by higher movie exhibition revenue. First-half cash generation also remained strong despite the completed share buyback.
✨ Key Takeaways
PVR INOX has been benefiting from a broader theatrical content slate, higher cinema admissions and premium-format monetisation after returning to profitability in FY2025-26. Revenue from operations rose 17 per cent YoY to Rs 2,105.1 crore from Rs 1,799.6 crore, while total income increased to Rs 2,139.3 crore from Rs 1,834.4 crore. Profit before Tax from continuing operations more than doubled to Rs 350.8 crore from Rs 145.1 crore a year earlier.
Movie exhibition remained the principal earnings contributor. The division reported quarterly revenue of Rs 2,104.1 crore and segment profit of Rs 340.8 crore. Movie production and distribution contributed revenue of Rs 59.8 crore and segment profit of Rs 10 crore. Inter-segment eliminations of Rs 24.6 crore resulted in consolidated total income of Rs 2,139.3 crore.
For the six months ended September 30, 2026, consolidated revenue from operations rose to Rs 3,727.3 crore from Rs 3,249.2 crore. Profit before tax from continuing operations increased to Rs 426.5 crore from Rs 81.9 crore, while profit for the period rose to Rs 319.6 crore from Rs 51 crore. Total expenses increased at a slower pace of about 5 per cent to Rs 3,288 crore, although finance costs remained sizeable at Rs 391 crore.

During the period, PVR INOX used Rs 301.4 crore, including transaction costs, for its equity share buyback. The company completed the buyback on September 24, 2026, purchasing and extinguishing 20.69 lakh shares, equivalent to 2.11 per cent of its March 31, 2026, paid-up equity capital, at Rs 1,430 per share. The board approved the unaudited results on October 28, 2026, and the auditors issued an unmodified limited review report.

The stock has gained 31.88 per cent over one year, compared with a 9.01 per cent decline in the BSE 500 over the same period, representing an outperformance of about 40.9 percentage points. PVR INOX share price hit fresh 52-week high.
What This Means for Investors
The sharp first-half profit improvement supports the view that a broader release slate, premium formats and food and beverage spending can lift earnings when admissions hold up. Movie exhibition supplied almost all quarterly revenue and segment profit, so the result chiefly validates the core cinema network rather than the smaller distribution arm. Operating cash flow of Rs 1,389.1 crore gives the company greater capacity to fund capital-light screen expansion and refurbishments from internal resources.
For investors, the development is supportive, but earnings visibility remains tied to film performance, advertising demand and consumer discretionary spending.
