Apollo Micro Systems Acquires 34% Stake in Defence Technology Company Linked to Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's Legacy; Check Details

On Monday, Indian equity benchmark indices traded higher, with the benchmark Nifty 50 index rising 27.95 points (0.12 per cent) to 24,279.95. Amid the market movement, Apollo Micro Systems share price rose 1.12 per cent to Rs 388.85 after the company acquired a 34 per cent stake in newly incorporated ShauryAstra Defence Systems Private Ltd to pursue advanced and futuristic defence technology opportunities.

Apollo Micro Systems Acquires Stake in ShauryAstra

Apollo Micro Systems Ltd has subscribed to 3,400 equity shares of ShauryAstra Defence Systems Private Limited at a face value of Rs 10 per share for an aggregate consideration of Rs 34,000. The investment represents 34 per cent of the paid-up equity share capital of ShauryAstra, making the company an associate of Apollo Micro Systems.

ShauryAstra Defence Systems was incorporated on August 21, 2026, with a dedicated mandate to undertake research, design and development of complete weapon systems, long-range systems, unmanned platforms and allied advanced defence technologies.

Focus on Unsolved and Futuristic Defence Challenges

The newly incorporated company will focus on addressing operational requirements for which indigenous solutions are currently unavailable, while also anticipating future technology and capability gaps for the Indian Armed Forces.

ShauryAstra has been structured as a technology and development arm with a focus on system architecture, advanced design, research and development and complete-platform development. The company is also expected to leverage the Apollo Group's existing engineering, manufacturing and integration infrastructure for industrialisation and production.

Dr V. K. Saraswat to Provide Scientific Leadership

ShauryAstra will operate under the scientific leadership and guidance of Dr. V. K. Saraswat, who has previously served as Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, Director General of DRDO and Scientific Advisor to the Raksha Mantri.

Dr. Saraswat has been associated with several strategic defence technology programmes, including the development, production and induction of the Prithvi missile. His professional experience also includes association with Dhanush, Prahaar, Agni-5, India's two-tier Ballistic Missile Defence programme, the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas and the nuclear submarine INS Arihant.

The company stated that Dr. Saraswat's association with India's indigenous missile development programme dates back to the early years of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme under the leadership of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Apollo Micro Systems to Expand into Complete Defence Systems

The investment represents an extension of Apollo Micro Systems' existing capabilities in the defence electronics sector. The company has built capabilities across mission-critical defence electronics, avionics, rugged computing, fuzes, actuators, weapon electronics, precision manufacturing and system integration.

Through ShauryAstra, Apollo Micro Systems aims to move beyond the development of individual components and subsystems towards participation in the creation of complete indigenous weapon systems and platforms.

The new entity is expected to complement Apollo Micro Systems' existing engineering, manufacturing and integration capabilities by focusing on advanced research, system architecture, design and complete-platform development.

Opportunities Under Defence Development Programmes

The development comes as private-sector participation in India's defence ecosystem expands through programmes and frameworks including Make-II, iDEX and Development cum Production Partner programmes.

Apollo Micro Systems stated that ShauryAstra will focus on capability gaps that remain unresolved as well as future operational requirements, combining the company's engineering and manufacturing capabilities with the scientific leadership and strategic experience of Dr. V. K. Saraswat.

Shri B. Karunakar Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Micro Systems Limited, said that ShauryAstra represents the next phase of the company's evolution from building critical components and subsystems to taking responsibility for complete defence solutions.

According to the company, ShauryAstra will focus on unresolved capability gaps and future operational requirements, while combining Apollo Micro Systems' established engineering and manufacturing strengths with the scientific leadership and strategic experience of Dr. V. K. Saraswat.
