Bank Holidays in May 2026:

Banks will observe select state-wise holidays in the second half of May 2026, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday matrix. The RBI list for May 2026 mentions holidays on May 16, May 26, May 27 and May 28 after May 10, apart from the regular fourth Saturday closure on May 23. The matrix is published centre-wise by RBI Regional Office, and not as a single nationwide holiday list.

Bakri Id Bank Holiday: What RBI Matrix Shows

As per the RBI holiday matrix, Bakri Id is listed on two separate dates in May 2026. May 27 is mentioned as “Eid-Ul-Adha-(Bakri-Eid)/Id-ul-Zuha”, while May 28 is mentioned as “Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha).” This means the bank holiday for Bakri Id will not be uniform across all states and will depend on the RBI centre applicable to the location.

Banks will remain closed on May 27 in centres such as Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada. On May 28, the holiday will apply to Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Jaipur, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna and Srinagar, according to the RBI matrix.

State-Wise Bank Holiday in May 2026

In Sikkim, banks under the Gangtok centre will remain closed on May 16 for State Day. In Tripura, banks under the Agartala centre will remain closed on May 26 for the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam and again on May 27 for Eid-Ul-Adha/Bakri-Eid.

For Bakri Id, banks in Gujarat, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Srinagar and Andhra Pradesh-linked RBI centres will observe the holiday on May 27.

On May 28, banks will remain closed in centres covering Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jammu, Goa, Bihar and Srinagar. Notably, Jammu and Srinagar appear under Bakri Id-related holidays on both May 27 and May 28 in the RBI matrix.

Banking Services to Plan Around

Customers planning branch visits, cheque clearances, cash deposits or bank-related paperwork should check the applicable RBI centre before visiting the branch. Digital services such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs usually remain available, but branch-level work may be affected on the listed holidays.

The RBI also states that all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays. Since May 23, 2026 falls on the fourth Saturday, banks will remain closed across the country on that day as well.
