JSW Steel Forms Joint Venture with POSCO

JSW Steel Limited has entered into a joint venture agreement with POSCO Group, through which its wholly owned subsidiary, Saffron Resources Private Limited, will become a 50:50 joint venture between JSW Steel and POSCO.

The joint venture aims to set up a 6 MTPA greenfield integrated steel plant in Odisha. The project will include steelmaking, hot rolling, and cold rolling/coating facilities, and will focus on producing high-grade flat steel products for automotive and other applications.The land for the project has already been secured, and the plant is expected to be operational by 2031, subject to regulatory approvals.

JSW Steel Strategic Significance of the Partnership

The collaboration is expected to combine POSCO’s technological expertise with JSW Steel’s strengths in project execution and cost efficiency. The joint venture will also leverage integration with POSCO’s downstream facility in Pune to create operational synergies and expand product offerings in India’s growing steel market.
