Multibagger Defence & Aerospace Company Secures Indian Navy Make-II Prototype Sanction Order; Share Price Jumps 3%

On Wednesday, Indian equity benchmark indices traded lower, with the benchmark Nifty 50 index declining 217.00 points, or 0.90 per cent, to 23,970.70. Amid the broader market weakness, Apollo Micro Systems share price gained 3.01 per cent to Rs 402.30 after the company announced that it had secured a Make-II Prototype Sanction Order (PSO) from the Indian Navy for the development of the SAVIOR-ASW (Semi-Submersible Autonomous Vessel for Intelligence, Operations and Reconnaissance).

Indian Navy Awards Make-II Prototype Sanction Order

Apollo Micro Systems stated that the Prototype Sanction Order (PSO) has been awarded under the Make-II category of India's Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP), which enables Indian companies to develop indigenous prototypes of advanced defence systems with procurement intent from the armed forces upon successful development.

According to the company, the order formally marks its entry into the rapidly growing domain of autonomous maritime and underwater warfare systems and represents one of the most significant indigenous defence technology milestones in its history. The company said the PSO reflects the Indian Navy's confidence in Apollo's capability to design and develop an indigenous autonomous maritime surveillance system.

About the SAVIOR-ASW System

The SAVIOR-ASW is described as India's first indigenously developed semi-submersible autonomous vessel specifically designed for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) surveillance. The unmanned and self-powered platform is capable of independently patrolling the ocean for extended durations while operating silently beneath the sea surface.

The vessel uses a sophisticated hydrophone array to detect submarines and underwater threats and continuously transmits intelligence to naval command centres ashore and onboard ships without requiring any personnel onboard. The company believes the platform will strengthen India's underwater surveillance capabilities while supporting indigenous defence technologies.

Strategic Significance

Apollo Micro Systems highlighted that the project addresses the increasing need for persistent underwater surveillance in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), where nearly 100,000 merchant vessels transit annually, carrying around 30 per cent of global containerised cargo and 42 per cent of globally traded crude oil within the region. The company added that approximately 95 per cent of India's trade by volume and nearly 68 per cent by value moves through sea routes.

The company noted that conventional anti-submarine warfare frigates require investments of several thousand crore rupees along with high operating and maintenance costs. In comparison, autonomous platforms such as SAVIOR-ASW are designed to provide continuous surveillance at substantially lower acquisition and operating costs, enabling wider maritime coverage while allowing frontline naval assets to focus on strategic missions.

Market Opportunity

The company estimates that the global autonomous maritime systems segment could represent an addressable opportunity of around USD 10 billion by 2032. Apollo clarified that these estimates are indicative and remain subject to future government procurement decisions and programme execution.
