✨ Key Takeaways
Nestle India shares fell nearly 9 per cent Intraday on October 15 despite a 36.3 per cent rise in Q2 FY27 profit and 20.5 per cent growth in sales, as investors focused on rising food inflation, commodity costs and the lack of a meaningful earnings beat.
Nestle India shares took investors by surprise on Thursday. The stock fell as much as 8.9 per cent to Rs 1,259.70, compared with the previous close of Rs 1,384.15. It later recovered part of the loss but remained sharply lower during the session.

Revenue from operations rose 20.3 per cent to Rs 6,788.3 crore, while profit after Tax jumped 36.3 per cent to Rs 1,026.8 crore, compared with Rs 753.2 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Domestic sales increased 20.4 per cent, while export sales rose 22 per cent. The company also delivered double-digit volume growth across product groups.
Operating performance was also strong. EBITDA rose to around Rs 1,615 crore, while the EBITDA margin improved to 23.8 per cent from 21.8 per cent in the year-ago quarter.
The Problem: Strong Results Were Already Expected
Ahead of the results, analysts were already expecting Nestle India to deliver another strong quarter. The actual numbers landed broadly within the range of expectations.
In other words, Nestle India delivered a good quarter, but it did not provide the kind of earnings surprise that investors were looking for.
For a premium consumer stock, merely meeting expectations can sometimes be enough to trigger selling, particularly when the share price already reflects strong future growth.
Food Inflation Is Becoming a Bigger Concern.
Nestle India management highlighted the challenging commodity environment, with pressure from several food and agricultural commodities.
Sugar and edible oils have remained elevated, while cocoa continues to face volatility. Milk prices have also strengthened seasonally.
The company has been relying on productivity improvements, operational efficiencies, product innovation and brand investments to manage the pressure.
Nestle India managed to improve its EBITDA margin during Q2, but the concern is whether this performance can continue if commodity inflation remains elevated for longer.
